Working as a Short Term Research Scholar at University of Hawaii (UH), Honolulu, USA on a project supported by National Science Foundation (NSF), USA was crucial moment of my career. This work has been presented in COMPRES Annual Meeting-2015 at Colorado Springs, CO. During the project, I was involved with high pressure phase and phase stability, lattice parameters, Si-O bond calculation of five coordinated silicon in diopside. The single crystal x-ray diffraction (SXRD) experiment was conducted at 13IDD of the Advanced Photon Source (APS), Argonne National Laboratory. We are looking forward to publish it in near future. Also I was working on a review paper on silica based glass at Hawaii Institute of Geophysics.

Indira Gandhi Centre  for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, Tamilnadu

Summer Training in Physics (STIP)-2014
Duration: May 2014 to July 2014

An internship at Indira Gandhi Centre of Atomic Research Center (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, India with the material science group provided me to learn the pressure calibration techniques like equation of state methods and ruby fluorescence method using laser heated diamond anvil cell. There, I learned the operation of diamond anvil cell, loading sample, twin chamber sample assembly. I used laser heated diamond anvil cell using Ar-ion laser for the experiment. Also I got an exposure on CO2 laser.

Study on modified coir fiber for fabricating composites for high potential applications
Supervisor
:
Prof. D.K Bisoyi, Former HOD, Department of Physics, NIT Rourkela

The study focused on preparing eco-friendly composite with renewable material sources such as natural fiber. Here we have chosen coir fiber as a raw material to serve the purpose of green composite. Coir fiber were extracted from the husk of coconut; mostly produce in tropical countries. These fiber has great thermal resistance as well as high strength. In order to minimize the its hydrophilic nature various treatment were performed such as alkali treatment with NaOH (chemical in nature) and oven treatment (physical in nature). NaOH treatment (20%) were performed on coir fiber by varying the treatment time duration for 1hr, 3hr, 5hr and 7hr. Finally oven treatment were performed for 5hr at a temperature 90 0C. The surface modification and the change occurred in coir fiber during the chemical or physical treatment were evaluated by FESEM, XRD and FTIR. All these method pointed that 20% NaOH treated for 3hr treatment is better for composite preparation compare to other treatment. The surface roughness and characteristic of the 3hr treated fiber were found to be optimum as revealed by FESEM and XRD analysis. FTIR spectra shows that the reduction of OH group which leads to increase in fiber matrix adhesion. We used lapox as a resin with k-6 hardener for composite preparation along with 15% (wt/v) coir fiber. At the end we found a better mechanical properties in case of 3hr NaOH treated coir fiber using the universal testing machine.
